FAQ - Sharing User and Connection Settings

Q.: How can I share my connection settings among the members of our team?

A.: All the connection settings (connection type, server name, etc.) are stored in the PrstDBL.spf file that is located in the <AQdevTeam Client> folder. Copy this file to the <AQdevTeam Client> folder that resides on the computer of your colleague and he (she) will be able to use your connection settings. You can send your PrstDBL.spf file to your co-workers via e-mail and attach instructions on what to do with this file.

Q.: How can I store panel settings when I re-install AQdevTeam Client?

A.: If you install a new version of AQdevTeam Client over a previous version, your panel settings will be saved automatically. If you uninstall AQdevTeam Client before installing a new version or if you want to move AQdevTeam Client to another computer, you should save panel settings to a file. To do this, simply select Options | Save Docking to File from the main menu of AQdevTeam Client and specify the file name in the ensuing Save File dialog.

After installing AQdevTeam Client, you can load the stored settings using the Options | Load Docking from File menu item.

Q.: How can I store Code Repository settings if I re-install AQdevTeam?

A.: Code Repository settings are stored in the <AQdevTeam Client>\CustomizeData\ScriptEditor.layout file (besides the Code Repository settings, this file also holds the layout of the Script Editor panels, syntax highlighting settings and some other options).

Before uninstalling AQdevTeam, save this file somewhere on your hard drive. After installing AQdevTeam Client, replace the new file with the saved copy.

If you install a newer version of AQdevTeam Client over a previous version, your Code Repository settings will be saved automatically (there is no need to save them manually).

Q.: Can I share my form layouts and views among other AQdevTeam users?

A.: Yes, you can. The layout of controls on the Edit Form and Preview Pane as well as Issue Explorer views and other settings that affect the appearance are stored on the computer on which AQdevTeam Client is installed.

One of the ways of sharing control layouts is to save a layout to a file and load it from this file on another computer. To save a control layout, open the Edit Form (or Preview Pane) in the Form Designer and select File | Export from the Form Designer's main menu. To apply the saved settings, copy the file to the desired computer, open the Edit Form (or Preview Pane) in the Form Designer, choose File | Import from its main menu and then select the file in the subsequent Open File dialog.

Another way to share a control layout is to ask your AQdevTeam administrator to do this. Besides control layouts on the Edit Form and Preview Pane, administrators can also share Issue Explorer views, templates of e-mail notification messages and collections of item field names (they are called field templates). All this is done via the Share User Settings dialog. To call this dialog, select Administration | Share User Settings from the main menu of AQdevTeam Client:

To share user settings:

Select the user, whose settings you would like to share, from the Belong to user box (this box is in the Personal user settings section, on the left of the dialog).
On the right of the dialog, select the group of users to whom you would like to make the settings available. For instance, to share settings among all the users, select the Everyone group.
Select the desired setting in the list on the left and press Copy. The setting will appear in the list on the right.
Press OK. AQdevTeam will apply changes. If a user already has his (or her) own layout of controls on the Edit Form, AQdevTeam will ask you whether to override personal settings with the group ones.

Next time the users will open the Edit Form (or Preview Pane), they will see the modified control layout.

We would like to note once again, that the Share User Settings dialog lets you share not only control layouts in the Edit Form or Preview Pane, but also Issue Explorer views and e-mail and field templates.
