Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 (see the note below).

It is strongly recommended that you have the latest service packs and updates installed for the operating system, including the essential updates listed below.

Important notes:

On computers that have several processors or a multiple-core processor (for example, a dual-core CPU) and that run Windows XP Service Pack 2, you must install Windows update #896256 in order to use TestComplete. The update can be obtained in the following ways:
Installed as part of Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Installed via Windows Update.
Downloaded from Microsoft’s web site:

To use TestComplete on Windows Server 2008 R2, the WoW64 component must be installed. The Server Core installation option for Windows Server 2008 R2 does not install WoW64 by default, so, you should install it yourself.
To use TestComplete on Windows 2000, you must install Windows 2000 Post-Service Pack 4 (SP4) COM+ 1.0 Rollup Package 37. This hotfix can be obtained on Microsoft’s web site:

TestComplete Minimum System Requirements

Intel Pentium II 400 MHz or higher.
Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
256 MB of RAM.
700 MB of hard disk space for installation.

Additional free disk space is required to run test projects, as TestComplete creates temporary files to store data generated during the test run. The actual free space required increases with the project size. It is recommended to have at least 200 MB of free disk space in order to run small projects, and 1—2 GB of free disk space to run large projects.
SXGA (1280 × 1024) or higher resolution monitor.

Licensing

To activate a TestComplete license, the computer must be connected to the Internet. After the license is activated, an Internet connection is not required.

If you are going to use a TestComplete Floating User license, your computer must have a network connection.

For more information about TestComplete licensing and activation, see TestComplete 8 Licensing Guide.

User Permissions

Installing TestComplete

You must have administrator permissions on the computer where you are going to install TestComplete or perform other installation-related tasks, such as modifying or repairing the TestComplete installation or uninstalling TestComplete. So, you must be logged on as an Administrator or be a member of the Administrators group on that computer.

In addition, if you are running the TestComplete installation program from a network share, you must be logged on under a domain account that has read and execute permissions on that share.

Using TestComplete

To use TestComplete and activate licenses, administrator permissions are not required. However, on Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 administrator permissions are required to perform specific tasks.

To use TestComplete on a Windows 2000 computer under a user account, the account must have read/write permissions for the <Documents and Settings>\All Users folder.

Running TestComplete on Virtual Machines

Virtual machines like Microsoft Virtual PC or VMware Workstation are considerable consumers of system resources. Typically, applications run slower on them than on a desktop computer. The more virtual machines are running concurrently on a computer, the slower they will work. If you are going to use TestComplete on a virtual machine, then the computer used for testing should have a configuration that allows the computer to reach highest performance possible (higher than what is specified in the Recommended System Requirements section above).

Important: Using TestComplete on a virtual machine requires a Floating User license. For more information, see TestComplete 8 Licensing Guide.
