Education

Bachelor of Music in music theory from the University of North Texas, in Denton Texas.

Background

I began my terrible departure down the path to the dark side of development in 1978 when I discovered Apple BASIC on my family's Apple II+ (48K of RAM, thank you). I attempted to forestall the inevitable by pursuing a futile career in music for a few years, but by the early 90s I was a full-time programmer, resigned to my fate.

Starting with version 1.0 of Borland Delphi (1995), I was primarily a Delphi/Object Pascal developer for several years until I really went over to the dark side by embracing C#. For the past few years I've been developing in a mix of Delphi and C# to which I've recently begun adding RemObject's Chrome (an Object Pascal language plug-in for MS Visual Studio .NET).

During my years as a developer, I've seemingly embraced and even hastened my destruction by becoming involved with, or employed by a number of 3rd-party development tools companies. I spent 2 years as part of the development team of ReportBuilder by Digital Metaphors, have been a longtime user and evangelist for ModelMaker Tools and Developer Express. Most recently, I spent 2.5 years with AutomatedQA as Director of Developer Relations.

Prior to joining AutomatedQA, I had happily used AQtime and AQtest (early TestComplete) for a few years. After joining AQA, I became quite well versed in all the AQA tools, speaking about them at trade shows and delivering numerous training sessions.

Since leaving AutomatedQA, I continue to use the AQA tools in my new job on a daily basis, and am actually using TestComplete and Automated Build Studio far more than I ever did.

Some of my favorite AQA tool topics include:

  • Customization of AQdevTeam (i.e., tweaking the heck out of it).
  • Object-driven testing in TestComplete.
  • Shaming other developers into doing my will by profiling their code in public (i.e., strategic profiling with AQtime).
  • Creating custom plug-ins and operations for TestComplete and Automated Build Studio, respectively.
  • TestComplete 4.

I'll see you on the AQA forums!
